Sobeys is a Canadian supermarket chain founded in 1907 in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, by John W. Sobey. The company operates more than 1,500 stores across Canada under numerous banners, including Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, Foodland, FreshCo, Thrifty Foods, and Farm Boy. Sobeys is a wholly owned subsidiary of publicly traded Empire Company Limited and remains headquartered in Stellarton, Nova Scotia.
